Applications are now open for the next cohort of The Push’s national workplace learning program – Music Industry Mentoring.  

With support from The Ian Potter Foundation, this intake of the Music Industry Mentoring program will support 7 young people with opportunities to be placed and mentored in some of Australia’s biggest music companies.

This program will give you the opportunity to develop skills, confidence, and networks across a range of streams including event management, technical production, business operations and marketing and promotions. 

The Music Industry Mentoring program aims to respond to ongoing sector-wide skills shortages and declining enrolments across music and arts in both secondary and higher education – creating a pipeline for skilled industry practitioners and providing both young people and workplaces with a framework that ensures workplace readiness and meaningful pathways into the contemporary music sector.

Industry partners providing mentoring opportunities for this intake of the program include APRA AMCOS, Live Nation, Mellen Events and Moshtix with opportunities across  Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Successful applicants will be matched with a workplace mentor who will provide guidance and support throughout the workplace learning program. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in regular online workshops to connect with and learn from other young people throughout the program.

While this volunteer program is open to all young people aged 18 – 25 based anywhere within Australia, priority access will be given to First Nations young people, young people of colour, young people from low-income households, young people with a disability and LGBTQIA+ young people. To cover any expenses incurred, all program participants will receive a once-off honorarium paid at the commencement of the program.

Program Opportunities

+ APRA AMCOS – Business Operations, Brisbane

This participant will volunteer across multiple departments at APRA AMCOS, better understanding the role that APRA AMCOS plays within the broader music industry. The participant will learn from the following teams; Writer Services, Publisher Relations, Events, OneMusic, Distribution, Screen & Games and National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO)

+ Live Nation – Business Operations (Sponsorship), Sydney

This opportunity is available within the Sponsorship team, partnering with local and international brands to build long-term relationships with their consumers through live experiences. This role will support the broader Sponsorship team across integration, client services, creative and production to conduct research, assist with the development of proposals and provide general support to the team on a variety of projects and events.

+ Live Nation – Business Operations (VIP Team), Melbourne

This opportunity is available within the Product & Experience team, specifically in our VIP team at Live Nation Head Office in Melbourne and on tour at one of our concerts in November. This role will support the day to day running of the VIP team, with the overall aim of executing an enhanced concert experience for VIP purchasers on the ground for a tour taking place in November that contains a number of different VIP packages.

+ Live Nation – Event Management and/or Technical Production (Venues), Melbourne

This opportunity is available within the Live Nation Venues team, learning across both of our venues in Melbourne (Palais Theatre and Festival Hall). This role will support the venue management team to ensure the effective, efficient, and productive running of the venue’s event calendar, and will include learning experiences both in the planning of events during typical office hours, and the delivery of events in the evenings.

This opportunity is available within Tour & Festival Marketing at Live Nation Head Office in our CONCERTS pillar, helping to provide day to day support to bring some of our biggest concerts to life for fans across Australia. This role will support the day to day running of the tour and festival marketing team, with the overall aim of executing best in class marketing campaigns for Live Nation tours and festivals.

+ Mellen Events – Event Management, Perth

This participant within Mellen Events will be actively involved in learning about and supporting day-to-day event administration, ensuring seamless operations. They will assist in coordinating event logistics and administrative tasks crucial to event execution. This role will learn about and assist with tasks that maintain the efficiency and success of Mellen Events' activities.

+ Moshtix – Event Management, Sydney

You will be volunteering within the Event Delivery and Client Services Team to assist the Event Delivery Team with delivering ticketing for events around the country. This will include assisting with staff briefs, rostering casuals, packing equipment for shipment, configuring scanners and learning to plan for event logistics delivery.

+ What are the requirements?

All participants must:

• Be aged between 18 – 25 years old at the time of the program
• Be able to attend all dates of the in-person program in-person
• Be able to attend all online briefing meetings and trainings
• Be involved as an active participant of the program until the end of December 2024.

+ What will I gain from participating in this program?

As part of the program, you will gain substantial work experience, practical training, mentorship, and networking opportunities. You will refine your skills, knowledge, understanding and confidence in working in the contemporary music industry.

+ How much does the program cost?

Participation in the program is free.

All participants will receive an honorarium to help cover travel to and from workplaces, meals and other expenses. This honorarium is not linked to the number of volunteer hours and is not subject to any reimbursement obligations.

Participants participating in a tour will also have all their flights and accommodation arranged and paid for.

All participants living outside the city where the end-of-program celebration will be held will have travel and accommodation arranged and paid for. This end of program celebration will be held on Friday 13 December.

The program takes place across Australia. Each opportunity has different locations listed, with some based in one location while others take place across multiple locations within Australia.
